Seremban Seafood Village (芙蓉烧蟹海鲜村) @ Jalan Tuanku Munawir, Seremban

During my trip down to Johor, I dropped by at this very well-known crab specialist, Seremban Seafood Village to try their signature Baked Crabs as well as other Chinese seafood delights.

The crowd on a Sunday evening was so unbearable as the ambiance was very vibrant and we had to wait for 15 minutes before we managed to secure a few seats.

#1 Homemade Chilli Dip (Complimentary)

A trio of salted crackers, chilli padi and a bowlful of sweet-sour chilli dip (specially for the crab) was served on the table as I digested the menu options.

#2 Signature Baked Crabs (招牌烧蟹) @ RM110

We started with the house specialty which was the main reason people came here for. The crabs were really fresh, meaty and what made it a standout was its thick coating of special sweet sauce. The dark sauce was so sticky that it suffused into the sweet thick flesh, leaving us hungry for more.

#3 Salted Egg Yolk Crabs (咸蛋蟹) @ RM90

Famed for its huge crabs, we tried another common favourite which has a great consistency, not too dry or soggy. However, the chef was too generous with his application of salted eggs that day that it turned out rather overwhelming for me to taste the naturally sweet seafood.

#4 Buttermilk Deep Fried Fish (奶油鱼) @ RM40

From the seafood family, we had a small-sized Tilapia fish dish ordered. It was heavy in buttery taste, and I personally enjoyed it as the sauce was thick enough to go with bowlful of steamed white rice.

#5 Salted Fish Belly Pork in Claypot (咸鱼花腩煲) @ RM40

For the 3-layer-pork "Ham Yu Fa Lam Pou", it tasted decent. No major complaints and I appreciated the beautiful aromas from savory salted fish. However, it was just not my cup of tea because of the soft fatty layer of meat.

#6 Beancurd in Gravy (招牌豆腐) @ RM12

The egg gravy was delicious for its faint flavour after having a few heavy dishes, but unfortunately it cooled quite quickly. For the beancurd itself, I find it rather firm, and I prefer one with softer smooth texture.

#7 Water Spinach (砚菜) @ RM12

When the bill arrived, it stunned almost all of us because the total damage was around RM50 per head! In terms of service, it was prompt but not friendly, probably because the business was too brisk so I would not comment much.

Verdict:
1. Frankly, the overall taste is just slightly above average, nothing much to 'wow' about.
2. Recommended: Signature Baked/Grilled Crabs
3. Pricewise, it is really hiked up due to its popularity among tourists but you wouldn't be surprised if I come back only for their baked crabs.

  10. For the grilled crabs...I usually go to the one located at Taman AST. I find that the taste over here is quite salty.

  15. True , there's lot of people but the workers aren't friendly at all . Not worth going all the way from JB . There is lot of places better than this restaurant . At least you spend your money to someone who know how to respect you as a customer . Thank you !
