#1 Happy Birthday to Hotel Istana!
Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur City Centre is celebrating its 20 years of glory in the month of October 2012! For the past 20 years, KL has undergone massive transformation but Hotel Istana remains within the Golden Triangle, providing us its best services.
In conjunction with the 20th Anniversary, we celebrated such remarkable occasion at Urban Restaurant to highlight their years of achievements and success as one of the best household brand hotels in Malaysia.
#2 Mr Praba G Menon
Area General Manager
Area General Manager
Mr Praba and his crew, who have been with the hotel since its opening, expressed their pride to be a True Malaysian hotel, owned and managed by Malaysians and their service that embraces a Truly Malaysian Hospitality.
#3 Cappucino
During this celebrative event, our dinner was a culinary adventure as we were served with a myriad of starters in individual servings, followed by a live carvery station and some lip smacking desserts.
Cold Hors D’ oeuvres
#4 Oysters on Half Shell and Mirin, Dashi Soy Reduction
An oyster drenched in a mixture of ultra light Japanese sake and soy sauce was a stand-out. Sitting elegantly with a fragrant lemon slice, it was an excellent pick-me-up if you were looking for something light, tasty and healthy to nibble on before a snooze.
#5 Duck Rolled with Chinese Pan Cake, Red Chilli,
Julienne Scallion Plum and Sesame Seed
Sliced roasted duck married with paperthin crepe was sweet and savory. Shredded scallion sprinkled on top of it were not merely for garnishing, you would have to taste it to discover its magic.
#6 Prawn Cocktail with Rambutan and Mango Salsa
The prawn cocktail would appeal to fans of this particular seafood. Enhanced by a subtle fruity zing, the appetizer is definitely tempting your palate.
#7 Chilled Gazpacho Soup “Shots” with Scallop Lemongrass Skewer
#8 Miniature Buckwheat Blinis with Crème Fraiche,
Smoked Marlin and Caviar Cold Water U.S.
#9 Udon Noodle with Sesame Chilli Dressing and
Tempura Chicken Floss Sushi & XO Sauce Peking
And I spotted a good Japanese fusion delight there. Wrapped in Japanese seaweed, the chicken floss deep-fried in tempura style adds a crunchy crisp to the sushi rice. Lovely!
Hot Hors D’ oeuvres
#10 Wild Mushrooms-Caramelized Onions-Roasted Peppers Tart
#11 Char-Siew BBQ Chinese Chicken with Hainanese Chicken Rice and Spring Onion Julianne
#12 “Laksa Lemak” in Cup with Soba Noodle Prawn,
Bean Curd, Bean Sprout in Coconut Gravy
#13 Wrapped Banana Leaf Mini Salmon with
Tandori Spice and Mango Mint Chutney
Tasty treats from bite-sized chicken quesadillas to mini salmon wrapped in banana leaf opened the appetite, especially when they were served piping hot from the kitchen to retain its amazing juiciness and aroma.
CARVING STATION
#14 Grilled Tenderloin of Beef with Horseradish Cream
Labelled as a fine dining restaurant, Urban dished out some special main course which kept their guests glued to their seats. The mild, sweet horseradish cream was a lovely accompaniment to the fragrant herb meat, embodying a good balance of flavours.
DESSERT
A sweet ending to the delightful meal was a colorful variety of miniature desserts. You can take comfort in the fact that most of the offerings are refreshingly light yet sweet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth.
#16 Miniature Crème Brülée
As much as I know this is bad for my waistline, I couldn't resist myself reaching for a helping of the smooth creme brulee; it is undoubtedly the lesseer of most sugary evils.
#17 Miniature Chocolate Fudge Brownies
#18 Cake Cutting Ceremony
