Greetings from Malacca! For the past week, I had been preparing for the trip by making a list of what to bring, what to buy, where to eat, etc. And I realize that I need a good, non-sticky sunblock because the sun is scorching in Malacca!
I don't usually wear sunblock because my BB cream / foundation already comes with a minimum of SPF30, but I was told that this is NOT enough. During my sunblock-hunting day, I learned few important points about a GOOD sunblock.
1. Why is sunlight so harmful?
Sunlight, or UV light is divided into two: UVA and UVB.
UVA has long-term damaging effect like premature aging and skin cancer
while UVB causes sunburn (which results in blotches and freckles).
2. What does SPF mean?
SPF means Sun Protection Factor, that measures the sunscreen's effect against UVB rays. So, the higher the SPF, the better the protection against sunburn. For example, an SPF30 can give up to 300 minutes of sun protection. But this is less important if you reapply in between hours.
3. What does PA mean?
PA is a measurement of sun protection against UVA. which is based on the Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) reaction reading at 2-4 hours of sun exposure. PA is a protective level of strength to mark the three PA+, PA++ and PA+++.
PA+++ provides good UVA protection with a factor of PPD more than 8. It is the strongest grade of UVA protection now available. It is designed for normal skin under very strong or direct UV radiation.
I come across this Japanese brand, ISEHAN at a Guardian outlet, which is better known as KISS ME, a brand that is familiar to me because of its cute princess logo. SuhadaFit sunscreen line comes in 4 variations: Water Gel, Daily Milk, Face Essence and Baby Milk.
ISEHAN SuhadaFit UV Water Gel SPF30 PA+++ (90ml)
After doing some researches, I decided to go for the SuhadaFit UV Water Gel, which is one of the few products available that gives the highest level of UVA protection.
The packaging is quite cute with a polka dots wrapper. This sunscreen is in watery gel-like texture which is slightly thicker than usual liquid sunblock. It contains Aloe Vera and Seaweed extracts that provide light rehydration and moisturizing results. Although the citrus scent is rather mild for me, I love the effect as it feels very fresh and comfortable on my cheek.
The water gel spreads smoothly onto the skin, forming a thin, transparent and uniform layer of protection. I think it is easily absorbed into the skin while keeping the skin moist. Most importantly, it feels light and does not stick on skin after long hours of exposing myself under the sun. It can be used everyday and removed by daily cleanser. Suitable for all skin types.
ISEHAN SuhadaFit UV Daily Milk SPF50+ PA+++ (30ml)
If you have to stand long hours of sun exposure, then I'd recommend SuhadaFit UV Daily Milk with SPF50+ (indicating the SPF level is higher than 50). I think this is good especially for those who are active in outdoor activities. Eventhough it has SPF50+, it doesn't feel like a burden to the skin, unlike many I've experienced.
Not only it can effectively protect skin against the damages of sun exposure, it is also waterproof (I hope it is sweatproof too!). The scent in this UV milk is slightly stronger, and very refreshing with fruity notes. Definitely a complete protection for my skin without feeling greasy or uncomfortable!
For myself, I applied this before I went for a stroll at Jonker Walk and the river of Malacca. And it was amazing! All thanks to the highly moisturizing serum ingredients, it feels like a moisturizer to me, so milky and lightweight. Another thing I notice is, my skin becomes more supple and smoother after applying this sunblock.
I believe all of us usually apply sunscreen after skincare, and before makeup. That's why SuhadaFit UV sunblock indicates that it can be applied beneath makeup as a foundation / base. If you need to reapply during the day, make sure you dry the skin to absorb excess sebum so that the sunscreen works better on your skin.
My Verdict:
What I like about the products:1. Nongreasy, nonsticky, ultimate comfort upon application.
2. Lightweight on the skin and its handbag-friendly size that brings great convenience.
3. A little goes a long way. Just apply a thin layer and it gives complete protection.
What I dislike about the products:
1. It'd be better if the scent is slightly heavier.
Conclusion:
I prefer ISEHAN SuhadaFit UV Daily Milk, because of its higher SPF, milky texture, and smaller size of the bottle.
Beauty Tips: Remember to apply sunblock 30 minutes before stepping out into the sun and reapply every two hours. For best protection, wear covered clothes and sunglasses like I do!
...Now I have prepared myself completely against harmful UV rays. How about you?
