Sector Focus Career Fair @ UiTM

Hello! Do you have any job for me? I'm currently looking for an internship placement beginning next March. It's time for me to get myself exposed to the corporate world, that's why I was at the Sector Focus Career Fair (SFCF) at University Teknologi Mara (UiTM), hosted by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp).

SFCF UiTM was a joint effort between TalentCorp, Graduan, MDeC and UiTM. The event was officiated by YB Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. I agreed with Dato' Sri Wahid that efficient services delivery is essential to propel Malaysia forward and stimulate economic growth. Therefore, the focus area of the fair was the Shared Services and Outsourcing (SSO) industry.

I might sound desperate for a job, but in fact I am! SFCF was a great platform to optimise Malaysian talent and facilitate awareness among the public of the career opportunities available in priority sectors under the 11 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs).

During the 2-days event, I came across over 30 potential employers, including AIG, DHL, Electrolux, Frost & Sullivan, GlaxoSmithKline, HP, IBM, LaFarge, Sime Darby and PwC.The hall was also packed with young graduates who were looking forward to pursuing an exciting career in this fast growing shared services sector.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department & BOD of TalentCorp.

As for myself, I was glad that SFCF enabled me to explore the critical industries and get a better insight of what should my future path be. Of course I took the opportunity to meet with CEOs and senior HR representatives of the companies, to better understand the developing sectors in Malaysia.

I felt as if I was a small potato there when I spoke to plenty of inspiring people and attended the Career Talks there. One of the main attractions I enjoyed there was the Couch Corner Slot, where visitors, especially students could interact with the companies in a relaxed atmosphere.

The overall experience there was great, I hope SFCF and TalentCorp will organize loads of similar events in future for young graduates like me :)
