Hoji & Matcha Japanese Cafe @ Sri Petaling

The cafe scene around Klang Valley has been booming lately, and doesn't seem to be showing signs of slowing down. Along the newly-opened shoplots at Sri Petaling next to The Store, I recently found a decent Japanese cafe that reminds me of Nana's Green Tea Cafe at The Gardens.

If you favour minimalism, this cafe offers exactly what you want. Surrounded by white and green walls, the interior is nothing fancy, but it is comfortable enough to enjoy my meal here with bunch of friends.

Iced Matcha Latte Float @ RM11.90 // Iced Matcha Latte @ RM8.90

As the name suggests, the cafe offers a good range of Matcha (Green tea) and Hojicha (Roasted Japanese green tea) beverages with a twist on it--- Soft-served green tea ice cream topping definitely adds brownie points to the drinks here!

Curry Udon with Chicken Karaage @ RM14.90

Unlike other coffee joints that serve coffee and cakes, Hoji & Matcha Japanese Cafe's menu boasts a wide array of hot food ranging from Japanese rice set to udons and snacks. The portion of curry udon here is so generous that it can keep my stomach full from lunch till dinner! Love the well-marinated fried chicken and Japanese soft boiled egg!

Unfortunately, I don't fancy the flavour of the Japanese curry which tastes weird-- a tad rich and spicy-- plus it is lacking of the right consistency. It could be a winning taste if the gravy is thicker, milder and lightly sweet.

 Okonomiyaki @ RM13.90

As for my favourite Japanese pancake, it is presented beautifully with bonito flakes and Japanese mayonnaise and completes the wholesome combination of the lovely batter and shredded cabbage.

Unfortunately, perhaps I am rather sensitive with seasonings as I think the chef
must have been overzealous with his application of MSG during my visit.

DESSERT TIME!
Parfait!!! If you are a fan of Nana's Green Tea cafe, now you'd know where to
find equally good (and cheaper!) desserts without having to go to Mid Valley already

At the front part of the cafe, I'm overwhelmed with various choices of Japanese snacks, sauces and green tea on the rack. I did not really check on the price tags, but I think it is pretty convenient to get my favourite snacks here instead of Shojikiya food kiosk.

Verdict:
1. A pretty decent cafe to satisfy your Japanese cravings around the neighbourhood.
2. The hot food items need to be improved in order to keep customers returning for more.
3. Recommended for those who love fancy beverages, parfaits and ice creams.
