It's time for another great celebration of the year again, with my favourite traditional mooncake brand since childhood. This year's mid-autumn festival celebration with Tai Thong Group is really unique as it recently introduces 4 new variants of mooncakes incorporating the best of local and international fruits.
Orange Lotus with Palm Sugar and Assorted Seeds (香橙红糖莲蓉)
Of course the fruity mooncake series is not complete without having the king of the fruits! The all-time bestselling Musang King Mooncake always delight me every year with its rich aroma, but this year Tai Thong introduces a more premium durian mooncake for true durian aficionados.
The filling is solely composed of the cream of the crop- Succulent real Musang King durian flesh that exudes full-bodied aroma, followed by hints of bittersweet flavour aftertaste. Simply luscious and creamy in every bite!
Look at those colorful mooncakes! Aren't they so lovely and appetizing? I am glad to know that Tai Thong has gone great lengths to source for premium quality fruits and invent new, interesting fruity flavours this year to cater for those health-conscious mooncake fans.
The fruits that make up the base layer of the mooncakes this year include orange, blueberry, mango and pineapple, which are all very citrusy, refreshing and naturally sweet for my liking.
A flavour closer to the traditional baked skin mooncake filled with lotus paste, this is slightly more tangy as fresh orange is infused into the filling. It is well-complemented by the rich caramel notes from pure coconut palm sugar without being too sweet for me.
When it comes to crunchy dried fruits and seeds, I'm definitely the first one to go for it, as it adds pleasant texture to the smooth and creamy blueberry lotus filling which is made of the real sweet and ripe superfruit.
As for the snow skin mooncakes, this year you'd get to enjoy refreshing flavours with a tropical twist. Wrapped in a soft, chewy skin, the sweet mangoes complement well with tart kiwi lotus paste and assorted dried fruits. Of course, it tastes better when served cold.
Next, I am surprised by the infusion of pineapple into the lotus paste, creating a deliciously tangy and sweet taste that opens the palate. Surprise comes one after another, its centre is made of a chewy mochi filled with creamy jackfruit that literally melts in the mouth!

Overall, I enjoy all the flavours from the latest mooncake creations which are masterfully crafted by award-winning mooncake master Chef Yiu Wing Keung. Thumbs up to the healthy combination of fruits, nuts and seeds that pack each mooncake with protein, fiber and healthy fats.
