When latte art gets too mainstream nowadays, let's go for adorable 3D latte art!
MACE, operated by the same team behind Coffee Chemistry Signature at First Subang Mall which I did a review few years ago, is an expert when it comes to crafting 3D latte sculptures of animals and cartoon characters using thick milk foam.
Being one of the early players in the cafe scene in KL/PJ, they can skillfully craft plenty of beautifully-presented 3D coffee arts each day, but customers must be prepared to wait for 10 to 30 minutes.
The coffee here is not only picture-worthy, but MACE also does not compromise on the quality of the beans. It serves one of world's finest coffee beans freshly roasted by Graffeo in Singapore.
Flat White / Cafe Latte / Cappucino @ RM10
Whether it is flat white, mocha or cafe latte, I personally find that the medium roast here is lighter in flavour, achieving a balance in smoothness and acidity. Great for those who can't take overly strong and full-bodied coffee.
Iced Green Tea Latte with 3D Art @ RM16.50
As for non-coffee drinkers, green tea latte makes a great option if you want to enjoy the art. The concoction is slightly milder in green tea flavour, but falls on the milkier side with very minimal bitter aftertaste.
MACE Whole-Leg Chicken with Rice @ RM22.00
At MACE, they are serious with the hot food, as much as with the coffee. As MACE represents 'Modern Malaysian Culinary Experience', we are delighted to try different dishes that are closer to our local taste buds, for example the well-marinated spiced chicken leg with aromatic rice.
Seafood Paprika with Rice @ RM20.00
I love how well the sambal sauce is prepared here. Not too spicy and it comes with hints of sweetness. The pandan rice, on the other hand, is well-cooked with finely-chopped onions that further elevate the aroma of the dish.
Buttermilk Chicken with Rice @ RM17.00
Grilled Chicken and Watermelon Lychee Salad @ RM18.00
Moving on to the Western dishes, I appeciate the creativity in this salad that combines savoury marinated chicken with sweet lychee and watermelon. Overall, it is definitely a refreshing summer treat.
Salmon Steak @ RM29.50
Seafood lovers will enjoy the thick juicy slab of salmon steak that pairs well with the homemade honey mustard sauce. Sweet and tangy, it is a delicious explosion of flavours and textures.
Garlic Ocean Prawn Olio Pasta @ RM26.00
Ice Cream with Honeycomb @ RM9
Dessert wise, I am delighted that MACE makes its own crunchy golden honeycomb from the kitchen. Crumbled onto the vanilla ice cream, it adds a nice crunch to the melt-in-the-mouth ice cream and cubes of chocolate cake at the bottom.
Homemade Cheesecake @ RM11
Homemade Brownies @ RM11
Although both cheesecake and chocolate-coated brownies look sinful, I find them surprisingly mild in sweetness. However, texture wise, they are quite dense and filling for one. Sharing is therefore recommended.
Waffle Ice Cream @ RM13
Oh did I forget to mention that the upper level of this two-storey cafe is very spacious and suitable for private functions that can fit up to 30 people? They even offer decoration services according to your preference.
Another good thing about MACE is that all prices are nett, inclusive of GST and there is no service charge here.
Verdict:
1. Great place for fancy 3D coffee art lovers.
2. Thumbs up to the wide varieties of pasta, Asian rice, western main courses and salad.
