Chinese New Year Menu 2016: Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant, Hilton Petaling Jaya Hotel

Every year we will not miss our annual get-together dinner at Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant, Hilton Petaling Jaya Hotel as an early celebration for Lunar New Year. Chinese Executive Chef Ben Lim has whipped up an array of specially crafted pork-free Cantonese cuisine befit for this special occasion.

Prosperity Yee Sang with Fresh Salmon (RM138 per half portion / RM258 per full portion)

As part of the tradition, we have the signature prosperity toss comprising of lime-zested salmon slices and colorful condiments. Besides that, a variety of options are available-- Jellyfish, Abalone or Snow Pear Yee Sang-- priced from RM98 onwards. Takeaways are available for your enjoyment at home.

Double Boiled Fish Maw Soup with Black Mushrooms and Dried Scallops

The delicious, health-enhancing broth is presented in individual portions, so you can take your time and enjoy the oceanic goodness of dried scallop and fish maw. It is so nourishing and good to warm the stomach!

One of the highlights of the evening is the whole chicken steamed in herbal concoction into moist and tender perfection. Definitely great to go on its own or with the soul-comforting herbal sauce.

Teo Chew Style Steamed Pomfret

A welcoming change from the usual steamed fish is the pomfret fish dish cooked in Teo Chew style, which is more appetizing with its delicious tang from the salted mustard greens and generous helping of beancurd. It beautifully retains its soft succulent flesh inside.

Deep-fried Prawns with Lemon Mayonnaise Sauce

The prawn dish, on the other hand, is equally noteworthy because of its freshness and nice crunchy texture. A drizzle of zesty lemon mayo gives a refreshing lift to the overall taste, without overwhelming the palate.

Stewed Whole Abalone with Australian Sea Cucumber and Sea Moss

Back to the tradition, we also try the premium abalone stew. Just by looking at its beautiful presentation, the dish has won our hearts. With such choice of top-grade ingredients, it is truly a luxurious treat on its own.

Steamed Glutinous Rice with Dried Oysters wrapped in Lotus Leaf

For the rice, we skip the usual waxed meat rice for something more down-to-earth and traditional. The rectangular parcel of dried oyster and glutinous rice is so fragrant and moist. Simple yet comforting!

Osmanthus/Sweet Olives with Lemongrass Jelly

Ending our sumptuous meal is the dessert duets, comprising of smooth and cooling lemongrass jelly, and traditional steamed glutinous rice cake coated with coconut shaves. A perfect combination of hot and cold for this festive season.
