To usher in the Year of the Monkey under the theme, "Lunar Memories", the Resort Cafe in Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa has specially crafted a beautiful lineup of festive dishes for us. What not to be missed here is the traditional prosperity toss with an added twist in it. Available for both dine-in and take-away until 22 February 2016.
The Resort Cafe's Salmon Yee Sang
The portion we have is specially made to serve a huge crowd, hence does not reflect the actual portion. With a choice between Salmon or Snow Pear, it is available in full portion for RM148 nett and half portion for RM88 nett.
The added twist which I mention is actually the Executive Chef Peter Lee's homemade Wasabi plum dressing which gives an extra kick to the sweet flavour. It is slightly pungent at the first bite, then becomes very mild and refreshing on the palate.
Have you ever tried DIY your own prosperity Yee Sang? You can do it at the Resort Cafe, as it is also available as part of the buffet spread daily throughout the festive period. Apart from the Oriental Corner, the buffet also features an international spread of local, Asian, Middle Eastern and Western dishes.
Reunion Buffet Dinner (6.30pm - 10.30pm)
29 January - 12 February (Except 7,8,9) 2016:
Adult: RM128 nett ; Senior / Child: RM68 nett
7 - 9 February 2016:
Adult: RM138 nett ; Senior / Child: RM78 nett
Braised Money Bag with Seasonal Vegetables
Symbolic Chinese dishes are not only available in the buffet spread, but also in the CNY set menus for the traditional round table feasting. For instance, the beancurd skin is used to wrap around bouncy seafood paste, forming money bags that represent wealth and prosperity.
Wok-fried Chicken with Capsicum
Deep-fried Prawns with Salted Egg Yolk
The deep-fried prawn, on the other hand, is equally notable as it is beautifully cooked to golden perfection. Crisp on the outside, I really enjoy this deshelled prawn as it exudes a strong aroma of salted egg yolk and gives a nice crunch upon each bite.
Duo-style Glutinous Rice
However, the most memorable dish is this dual-layered glutinous rice topped with shredded omelette. The bottom layer exudes a beautiful aroma of dried shrimps, whereas the top layer is more flavourful, sticky, and well-stuffed with delicious bite-sized mushrooms.
Deep-fried Glutinous Rice Cake topped with Handmade Chocolate
Thumbs up to the creativity! Another dish comes with little surprise for us-- A classic Nian Gao deep-fried to crisp perfection; not too dry yet chewy. And the mini mandarin orange on it is actually a creamy chocolate ball, handcrafted by the chef here. Too cute to be eaten!
