Located among the cluster of embassies along the busy street of Jalan Ampang, White Horse Tavern is the newest establishment sitting at the corner lot of the ground floor in Amp Walk mall. Parking is ample here, be it underground carpark or roadside bays.
From the outside, it may look like another drinking hole in KL, but this cosy English tavern and family restaurant actually has a spacious dining area with a kids play area, and serves an extensive menu of delicious food that gives us plenty of surprises.
For the starter, you shouldn't miss the crowd's favourite BBQ chicken wings. Beautifully coated with the special sweet-spicy sauce and barbecued to charred perfection, the crispy chicken wings are pretty addictive once you get hooked on.
When it comes to the mains, White Horse Tavern Ribs win the biggest applause among the diners of the evening. It is specially invented by the in-house chef, Chef Yogi, using pure honeycomb from Cameron Highlands. It creates a caramelized sweet, nutty kick on the sticky BBQ coating, with fork-tender meat that falls off the bone easily.
White Horse Tavern is probably the only place in KL to get this amazing dish!
Crispy Roast Pork Knuckle @ RM90
Exclusively available after 12noon from Mondays to Saturdays, be sure to make reservation to avoid disappointment. Served with grilled corn on the cob, jacket potato and a choice of sauce — BBQ, Black Pepper Mushroom or Hellfire XL Sauce — I prefer the latter one which is extra spicy and gives a very fiery kick on the palate.
Crispy Roast Pork Knuckle @ RM90
Hog lovers like me is totally on cloud nine when the pork knuckle is served deboned for easy pickins', along with crisp golden cracking and streaky bacon. The flesh is surprisingly moist and tender, best dipped into the creamy spicy mustard, or the prune and apple compote that gives a nice balance of savoury goodness.
Pork Burger (180g) @ RM28
Nevertheless, my personal favourite goes to the burger because of the ultra juicy grilled pork patty that is literally bursting with flavours as soon as I sink my teeth into it. Apart from the thick patty, it is also served with fries, salad, caramelized onion, coleslaw and gherkin which is sure to satisfy those with big appetite. Best dipped into Hellfire XL Sauce for spicy lovers!
Deep Dish Alfredo Pizza @ RM32
For the pizzas, they are equally notable as the chef creatively injects unique ingredients into each. Seafood lovers will enjoy this grilled fin fish pizza loaded with melted Gouda cheese and cream. A helping of chilli flakes and pepper sauce adds a delicious spicy punch to the oceanic pizza.
But if you are seeking for something more filling, then the breakfast pizza makes a better choice as it is protein-laden with different breakfast goodies all loaded on an ultra thin, crisp crust— Eggs, sausages, bacon, mushroom and hash browns with Cheddar cheese.
Fin fish served with creamy mashed potatoes, leeks, carrots and zucchini in cheesy white sauce.
Chicken Mushroom Pie @ RM38
Honestly, I am surprised by its widely diversified menu. It even serves homemade pies here which is not a common scene in many bar-concept restaurants. Accompanied with creamy mashed potatoes, Roast Gravy Sauce and sautéed vegetables, the flaky crusty pie is generously filled with meat and thick gravy which can easily stuff us to the brim.
If you are craving for more meats, do head to the deli counter, choose among
the wide varieties of marinted meats and have them grilled specially for you!
Bread and Butter Pudding with Homemade Caramel Sauce (The above is not in full portion)

Nope, the night does not just end with the dessert. After the meal, we head to the bar instead, and wash down our meal with the selection of icy cold beers, premium scotches and wines. If that is not your cup of tea, you can choose from their extensive beverage list where you can pick whatever that suits food pairing and individual taste.
This place is simply perfect to host your birthday party, celebration or corporate event, followed by a great after party. There are live band performance on Friday’s, pub quizzes, Salsa nights and other events happening from time to time.
Don't forget to pair your drinks with some light tapas such as the Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms
wrapped in bacon with mozzarella cheese and then grilled to perfection.
Overall, White Horse Tavern has brought us a wonderful dining experience, followed by a nice chill-out session till late night. Worth a revisit? Certainly, be it for brunch, dinner or even supper!
