Review: LINOLA Pharmaceutical Lotion for Dry Sensitive Skin

When I am first introduced to Linola, a popular German pharmaceutical skincare brand developed since 1957 and is now the No.1 preferred medical skin care by paediatricians in Germany, I know this is going to be a heaven-sent solution for my dry, sensitive skin!

Yes, we may have been overwhelmed by the varieties of body lotion on the shelves in which some can go as low as RM10 per bottle while some can cost up to a hundred. Truth to be told, expensive stuff may not be good – Look at the formula, ingredients and testimonials.

Pharmaceutical grade skincare like Linola is not just another run-of-the-mill range of products made for dry skin. It is one of the best supportive medical care in Germany for all forms of dry, stressed skin, including those with chronic atopic eczema.

So What’s The Secret of Linola?

Do you know, our skin has a natural barrier that prevents it from losing too much moisture - it is called structural lipids rich in linoleic acid? But these moisture retention factors are stripped away due to frequent bathing, showering or swimming. So, just like vitamins, the body must be replenished with linoleic acid.

Linoleic acid is a miraculous ingredient widely used in Linola products as it can:
❤ Heal the skin, soothe the itchiness and inflammation of eczema sufferers
❤ Improve certain skin problems such as dry and itchy scalp
❤ Treat medical conditions such as Psoriasis (itchy, red and scaly skin condition) and Chafing (irritation due to friction)
❤ Treat skin with its protective, regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties

The Products of Linola

Linola products are wholly formulated and produced in Germany. Each contains linoleic acid rich vegetable oil and is free from harmful mineral oils and silicones.

A full range of Linola products includes the basic body lotion and specialized care for different parts of the head, body, arms, legs etc (Hand lotion, foot lotion, face, protective balm, shower and wash, forte shampoo and sun lotion).

My Personal Experience

I believe that, since Linola works well on Eczema sufferers, it would certainly help improve my dry skin condition too. So I just got few Linola products to try out – the basic Lotion, specialized Hand Lotion as well as the Shower and Wash.

Linola Lotion (200ml) @ RM79

Linola Lotion (Hautmilch) is specially developed for the basic daily care of all forms of dry and stressed skin. If Linola is something new to you, then you must first try this Linola Lotion.

How To Use: Apply twice daily.

Texture: ★★★
The "water-in-oil emulsion" is far thicker than I'd thought. Nevertheless, it is easy to smooth over the skin.

Feel:★★
Despite of the thick texture, my skin would not feel sticky / uncomfortable upon application.
It is also easily absorbed into skin, thanks to its 35% lipid content.

Benefits:★★
❤ Normalises the skin’s lipid and moisture content, thus prevents drying
❤ Alleviates the feeling of tightness and itching

What I Like:★★★
When it is called “the basic”, it is really a fuss-free, straight-forward moisturising product
which contains valuable thistle oil (Ultra rich in linoleic acid).

Linola Hand Lotion (75ml) @ RM35

As if the name isn’t clear enough, Linola Hand is specially catered for the special daily skin care requirements of tired hands. Since I work on my laptop in an air-conditioned room for long hours everyday, I seriously need this.

How To Use: Apply twice daily.

 Texture: ★★★★
The "oil-in-water emulsion" has an extremely lightweight texture, almost water gel-like consistency.
Applying a thin layer is sufficient to seal the entire hand with moisture.

Feel:
Upon application, it makes my skin feel very "breathable" and soft like a baby.
The absorption is super speedy, deep into the skin.

Benefits:
❤ Linoleic acids aid natural skin regeneration
❤ Lipids and glycerin reduce skin tension
❤ Glycerin increases skin moisture levels
❤ Suitable for dermatitis sufferers

What I Like:
An extremely lightweight hand lotion that leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth instantly. Hassle-free too, because I can continue with my daily routine right after applying the lotion, because the full absorption takes only seconds!

Linola Shower and Wash (300ml) @ RM69

Linola Shower and Wash (Dusch und Wasch) is made for the special needs of skin that is dry or susceptible to dermatitis.

How To Use: Apply and allow to cleanse for 90 seconds, then rinse off with water.

Texture:
The "clear micro-emulsion gel" is transparent but thick. And it does not lather well,
probably because foaming agents are usually harmful.

Feel:
It feels extremely gentle and mild on skin, hence suitable for both face and body.
After showering with this, my skin feels calmer and less irritated.

Benefits:
❤ Long-lasting moisturizing effect for 24 hours.
❤ Marked at a skin-friendly pH of 5.5, it does not irritate even the ultra-sensitive skin.

What I Like:
A rather pricey but highly effective shower gel to keep your body comfortable, smooth and moisturised from head to toe.

Besides that, if your skin suffers from extreme dry condition, here are some beauty tips for you:

❤ You may need an even greater amount of lipids and enhanced protection against water.
❤ Try alternating between Linola Lotion (35% lipid content) and Linola F* (60% lipid content).
❤ Use them overnight as part of an intensive treatment.

Verdict:
1. Highly effective! No doubt it is an excellent medical skin care. I can feel significant improvements on skin softness and hydration after 4 weeks of usage. ❤
2. It not only helps dry skin, but also works well on the improvement of skin barrier function (less roughness).
3. The positive effect is not just skin-depth – I can see how it changes my skin “behavior” as my skin becomes more tolerant (Less sensitive). Highly recommended for those with skin issues especially atopic eczema.
